Chinese New Year Greetings – Phrases and Meanings in English
Chinese New Year 2017 will start from January 28 till February 11. This year 2017 is named as the “Rooster Year”. Chinese are very warm-hearted people, they greet each another with unique sayings when they meet. During the Lunar year period, they celebrate the new year in their own style. Dinner is common all over China on that night. They also decorate their homes but unlike the western styles.

Beginnings of Greetings and Sayings
If you are Greeting an older (or respected) person, then it’s a little different from greeting a younger one in Chinese: nín for ‘you’, instead of the common nǐ. For example:
